Wrapping and dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes improves electrical conductivity of protein-nanotube composite biomaterials.
Composites of extracellular matrix proteins reinforced with carbon nanotubes have the potential to be used as conductive biopolymers in a variety of biomaterial applications. In this study, the effect of functionalization and polymer wrapping on the dispersion of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) in aqueous media was examined. Carboxylated MWCNT were wrapped in either Pluronic(®) F127 or gel...
متن کاملSonochemical degradation of N-methylpyrrolidone and its influence on single walled carbon nanotube dispersion.
Sonicating pure N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP) rapidly produces contaminating organic nanoparticles, at increasing concentration with time, as investigated by AFM, as well as UV-vis, IR and NMR spectroscopies. The contamination issue affects carbon nanotube, and likely other nanomaterial, dispersions processed by sonication in organic solvents.
متن کاملComputational Micromechanics: Effective Electrical Conductivity of Carbon Nanotube-Polymer Nanocomposites
Nanocomposite development in the aerospace industry has been encouraged due to their considerable structural enhancements, particularly for material composed of carbon nanotubes included in a polymer matrix. In an effort to explore the nanocomposites’ material properties, previous works have made use of a computational micromechanics model for the analysis of the effective electrical conductivi...
متن کاملElectrical conductivity, impedance, and percolation behavior of carbon nanofiber and carbon nanotube containing gellan gum hydrogels
The electrical impedance behavior of gellan gum (GG), GG-carbon nanotube, and GG-carbon nanofiber hydrogel composites is reported. It is demonstrated that the impedance behavior of these gels can be modeled using a Warburg element in series with a resistor. Sonolysis (required to disperse the carbon fillers) does not affect GG hydrogel electrical conductivity (1.2 ± 0.1 mS/cm), but has a detrim...
متن کاملAnalysis of variance on thickness and electrical conductivity measurements of carbon nanotube thin films
One of the major challenges towards controlling the transfer of electrical and mechanical properties of nanotubes into nanocomposites is the lack of adequate measurement systems to quantify the variations in bulk properties while the nanotubes were used as the reinforcement material. In this study, we conducted one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) on thickness and conductivity measurements. By ...
